Photos: Blind and visually impaired sailors take to Lake Pontchartrain during Blind Match Racing clinic

Community Sailing New Orleans partnered with Boston-based Community Boating Inc. to hold a 2-day Blind Match Racing clinic. Four blind and visually impaired sailors came in town from Boston, Wisconsin and Colorado. Each boat had 2 blind and visually impaired sailors with a person who could give visual cues when the sound devices floating on the lake could not be heard due to large waves. .

DECD provides $800K to FORGE for product development grants

The state is providing more than $800,000 to a New Haven nonprofit that will use the money for a grant program to promote manufacturing innovation and product development.

The program was announced Wednesday by FORGE, a nonprofit that connects startups creating products with product development, manufacturing, and supply chain resources. It will receive $811,800 from the state Department of Economic and Community Development’s Manufacturing Innovation Fund (MIF), a state spokesperson said.
